Dispatches From Dystopia

lost another ounce of empathy today
not quite sure how much I have left
where can I pull more from
in a society so bereft?
they say they want to kill me
because I will not submit
I will not submit
I will not submit
I will not submit
so I'm the crazy one,
I thought my body was my own
but fear came and obliterated
all I'd thought I'd known
I thought my body was my own
I thought my body was my own
I thought my body was my own
do they not see the lies?
do they not see the skies?
the flames, like cyclones,
ravage trees with vicious hunger
and flood waters rush by unbothered
drowning all hope in its wake
hold tight lest you be taken
hold tight lest you be taken
hold tight lest you be taken
could you even survive the depths?
can you ride the waves of destruction
and swim your way to shore?
are you sure?
are you sure,
because I think you're going the wrong way

I think you've been turned about
I think you've been misled
and misguided
and manipulated
but I can't convince you
to turn around

so I'll go my way
and you'll go yours
may we both make it out of the flames and fury
alive
